Philippa Jefferis - Co-Chair / Co-opted Governor

Philippa is a civil engineer keen to support local education, and encourage more children to engage with science at a young age. Philippa has worked both in the UK and overseas. She brings her project management skills in finance and health and safety to the Governing board.

Penny Bull - Co-Chair / Co-opted Governor
Penny joined the governing board in 2021. Since University she has been working in the arts sector, initially as an Education Officer for Access and Early Years and latterly as a grant manager. Over the last few years Penny has developed expertise in charity governance, and is currently Governance Administrator for Depaul UK. She is passionate about good governance and its role in ensuring that the best possible outcomes are achieved for children and young people. Having grown up in the London Borough of Sutton, and with a child attending primary school here, she is a committed part of the local community.

Joanne Guerin - Headteacher
Joanne Guerin is a dedicated primary headteacher (HT) with 25 years’ experience in education and over a decade in senior leadership. She is deeply committed to tackling deprivation and championing social mobility through high-quality, inclusive learning experiences.
Appointed as HT at Wallington Primary Academy in 2020—just before the national lockdown—Joanne has led the school through significant challenges. Her leadership is driven by the belief that education can transform lives, and she works tirelessly to remove barriers so that every child can access opportunity, achievement, and aspiration. With a strong focus on building cultural capital, raising expectations, and embedding inclusive practice, Joanne ensures all pupils are supported to thrive. Under her leadership, WPA was rated Good by Ofsted (2022), received the Leading Parent Partnership Award, and was awarded Centre of Excellence status for the Inclusion Quality Mark (2024) at the first assessment.
Joanne is also a champion of strong governance and community partnership, building a local committee that plays a vital role in supporting school improvement and helping raise outcomes for all learners.

Kate Hayward - Staff Governor
I am the Assistant Headteacher and SENCo at Wallington Primary Academy. I have been in education for over 20 years with over 10 years in Senior Leadership and SEN. I champion inclusive practice for all children in removing barriers to enable children to fulfil their potential. I have also led a variety of curriculum subjects and been involved in curriculum development and design.

Natalie Stewart - Staff Governor
Natalie has worked as a class teacher at Wallington Primary Academy since January 2023. She is also subject leader for English and PE and oversees Lower Key Stage 2 as Year 3 and 4 Phase Leader. Natalie has been working in the Cirrus Primary Academy Trust since 2017 when she began as an NQT. She has a passion for creating a stimulating, nurturing and inclusive environment in her classroom ensuring that all pupils are given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Natalie enjoys researching and trialling new strategies that will best support children's knowledge and understanding of new concepts and has a particular interest in teaching and learning and developing practice.

Geoffrey Sekyere - Co-opted Governor

Geoffrey is a happy husband and an excited father. He spends his weekdays working at an energy company, where he is the Director of Compliance & Regulation. In my spare time, Geoffrey likes reading, exercising, brushing up his French and going for long walks. Geoffrey's passion is to develop people to be the best that they can be.

Owusu Sarpong - Co-opted Governor
Owusu brings both professional expertise and a heartfelt commitment to community service to his role as Co-opted Governor at Wallington Primary Academy, a position he has held since September 2023.
He works as an Advanced Analytics Consultant at Omnicom Media Group UK, drawing on over seven years of experience in data analytics and consulting. Beyond his professional life, he is passionate about putting his skills to work for causes that matter — from building and maintaining a management system for his church, to tackling real-world problems for NGOs through the Omdena platform using data science and analytics.
He also serves in a number of leadership roles at Croydon PIWC (Church of Pentecost), including as Secretary, Children's Ministry Leader, and Bible Studies Facilitator — roles that reflect his passion for nurturing others and his commitment to his own continued growth.
At the heart of everything Owusu does is a single driving vision: to live a life of meaningful contribution — maximising his potential while empowering those around him through service. It is a vision he brings with him to Wallington Primary Academy, and one that makes him a valuable and purposeful addition to its governing body.

Halak Parikh - Co-opted Governor
Halak is a senior leader in food science who is keen to support local education and inspire children to engage with food science from an early age. She has worked across the UK and internationally. Halak brings strong skills in strategic thinking, collaboration and problem‑solving to the Local Committee.
